Why You Need to Remove Makeup Before Having Dermarolling Treatment?

It is a standard protocol is to clean your face well and make sure that you remove all your makeup before starting the skin needling treatment. This is to prevent any skin irritation and the spread of infection while having the procedure. Make up residues are foreign to the body, when you are having skin needling it creates a micro portal to allow the easy penetrability of topical agents directly into the skin.

If there are any foreign substances that come in contact with the skin, it may trigger an inflammatory response. Or it may actually give way for microorganism to penetrate easily into the skin. Hence, it is a standard practice to clean your face thoroughly and remove any make up before having skin needling.

When is the Best Time to Apply Make up after Dermarolling?

You know that you need to rest your skin first, after having dermarolling therapy. You may ask how long you have to wait before you can apply makeup. Is one hour enough or you needed to wait for more than 24 hours?

The length of time that you need to wait before applying makeup depends on the length of the microneedle. If you are using the smallest needle sizes like 0.2 mm to 0.25 mm, you can apply makeup after an hour. Smaller size needles are used for effective absorption of topical agents like moisturizing cream, Vitamin C serum, anti-aging creams and many others.

The purpose of 0.2 mm microneedle is to allow the skin to become more permeable so the vitamin creams can exert its beneficial and potent effects on the skin. The 0.2 mm creates a shallow hole which usually closes completely within an hour. This is the reason why you need to wait for at least an hour before you can apply your makeup.

Remember, it is not the substances in the makeup that you want to take an effect in your skin. So you have to wait at least an hour before you put your makeup on.

If you are using longer needles like 0.5 mm, it is best to apply makeup the following morning. This is to allow your skin to close and heal completely after the treatment. Although, the micro holes close immediately, longer needles may cause some pinpoint bleeding and redness. Hence, you need to rest your skin to allow the process of skin healing runs smoothly.

While the 1.0 mm microneedles penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, so you need to wait for at least 24 hours before you can apply the makeup. This needle length reaches the upper part of the dermal layer which triggers collagen production.

For longer needles such as 1.5 mm and or longer, you need to wait at least two days before you can apply makeup. Longer needles penetrate more deeply; it can reach up to the dermis. If you use it incorrectly it may cause permanent scarring which is definitely not good to look at. So try dermarolling with shorter needles at first few times.

A 1.5 mm microneedle may cause your skin to look sun burnt on the first day, then a bit reddish on the second day. Then the skin goes back to normal after two days. This is the rationale why you need to allow complete skin healing before you apply any makeup.

Just like Broken Friendship and Relationships, Your Skin also Need Time to Heal!

Creating micro injury to your skin may cause a cascade of inflammatory response. Depending on the length of the needle, it may trigger massive collagen production that would need a couple of hours or days to heal.

If you plan to have skin needling, make sure to free your schedule ahead of time. It is advisable to do it on a weekend so your skin has more time to heal. Say for example, if you do rolling on a Friday evening, you can wait until Monday before you can apply the makeup regardless of the needle size.

This is to ensure that your skin has ample time to close and heal completely before you put any make up. Whether you plan to put any based powder or mineral based powder, the thing is, you should let your skin regains its strength and normal functioning.

If you are desperately in need to put your makeup, Sunday evening would be alright as long as your skin doesn’t have any redness or other inflammatory response.

Besides, it will only take you a couple of days off before you can apply your makeup. You just have to be patient and wait until the visible effects are seen.
